Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass - Lewis Carroll, John Tenniel, Hugh Haughton

This is a book that is full of charm. Alice is an intelligent and openly curious heroine who actively participates in the fantastical adventure her trip down the rabbit hole has set her on. She faces the world with a bright eyed pragmatism that is wonderfully endearing. The characters she meets are delightfully appealing in their absurdity and often ridiculous in the best ways (the gryphon and his oh, so morose friend the mock-turtle being particular favourites). The language is vivid, entertaining and energetic and the wordplay comes at such a brisk pace I found myself re-reading passages to catch it all. I highly recommend grabbing a copy, curling up with your favourite child and wandering into Wonderland. It's definitely an experience well worth sharing.
